WWDC 2009
Apple had their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) today and they announced much more then we expected.
1. iPhone 3.0 software available on June 17th. Free for iPhone users. (apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate)
2. Macbook Pro’s have been updated. There are no longer any Macbooks except the $999 white machine. (store.apple.com)
3. iPhone 3GS announced with faster processor, video recording, better battery life. (apple.com/iphone)
4. Snow Leopard due for release in September. (apple.com/macosx)

‘spotlight turns to notebooks’ event.
So Apple announced a few new things this morning.
They are refreshing the Macbook Pro, Macbook, and Macbook Air. Plus a new 24″ display with a laptop power connector built right in, nice. Both the Macbook Pro and the Macbook now have their cases machined from a single piece of aluminum (no more chipping corners!), have a glass display, and a huge trackpad that supports multi-touch gestures (think iPhone). They even managed to get rid of the mouse button, the entire trackpad is one big button. The thing that I am most excited about, however, is the fact that the Macbook Pro comes with both the GeForce 9400M (integrated) and the GeForce 9600M GT graphics chips – you can switch between them for better battery life. Both the Macbook and the Macbook Air got upgraded with the 9400M as well. Anyways, pictures from Engadget of the event!

New Logo Design
Here is the mockup of a new logo design that I would think benefits MacMechanic. At the moment we really have no image that really represents ‘us’ so I hope this makes our business more recognizable. Feel free to email me or make a comment if you like it or have any criticism!
‘Let’s Rock’
Today’s ‘Let’s Rock!’ event introduced a few new interesting items to the Apple product line.
- iTunes 8 – Music tailored to your tastes with the ‘Genius’ feature. Creates playlists that match songs you select. Available today. Pretty cool if you think taking the time to make playlists of your own music is too much of a hassle. Unfortunately this doesn’t seem like all that great of a feature for me, personally. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
-

- New iPod Nano – 8GB and 16GB with a huge widescreen display for video, Genius playlist support. 24 hours of music, 4 hours of video. $199 or $149. I’m definitely drooling over the new colors..shiny, shiny. The widescreen display rocks too. http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/
- New iPod Touch – Intergrated volume controls, Genius playlist creation, built-in speaker, Nike+ support, thinner. 36 hours of music, 6 hours of video. 8GB, $229, 16GB for $299, and a 32GB for $399. http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/
- iPod touch and iPhone – Firmware 2.1. Fewer dropped calls, improved battery life, no App Store program crashes, bug fixes. Available Friday.
MobileMe Solutions
I finally got my hands on a copy of MobileMe only to find out that my contacts and calendars simply would not sync. Unfortunately MobileMe is not quite the most polished service that Apple has ever released. Once it is up and running, however, it works great so:
For all of you with MobileMe problems, here is a potential solution that worked for me.
1. Open ‘System Preferences’ under the Apple menu.
2. Go to your MobileMe settings and click the ‘Sync’ tab.
3. Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the bottom right of the window.
4. Unregister all computers linked to your account.
5. A window will come up, delete all information off your MobileMe account.
6. Re-register your computer and sync.
